2008 - statistical summary

In 2008, 2 426 942 passengers used Katowice Airport - 21.6% more than in the preceding year. In comparison to 2007, there was an increase in both regularly scheduled and charter traffic. 1 804 638 passengers travelled on regularly scheduled flights - 18% more than in the previous ear. In terms of charter flights, the 39% increase in passenger traffic, meant that with the 601 953 passengers, Katowice Airport confirmed its strong position as the Charter Centre for Southern Poland and retaining its position as second in the country in terms of charter flights. The increase in passenger numbers translated into a greater number of aircraft operations - of which there were 27 030, 10% more than in 2007.
With 301 691 passengers using the airport, July was the busiest month in 2008. It was also the best month in terms of charter passengers - 124 211 overall.
In 2008, 74.4% of all passengers travelled on regularly scheduled services and 24.8% travelled on charter flights. The remaining 0,8% were passengers of eg. General Aviation.

The previous year was also one for further extending the network of connections from Katowice Airport. The airport expanded its network by 6 scheduled services and 8 charter connections. Ryanair opened three of the scheduled services to Shannon, Birmingham and London-Stansted. Wizz Air launched regular services to Bologna from Katowice Airport and from 1st April, 2008, Germanwings launched services to Stuttgart and Cologne. New charter services launched in 2008 were: Costal del Sol, Faro, Paphos, Calabria, Bodrum, Taba, Amman and Fuertaventura.
